The Baldwin Tower is located in the Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo, at the southeastern end of the historic Tsarevets Hill.
The modern tower was built in 1930 according to the project of architect Alexander Rashenov, similar to a preserved medieval tower, located in the Cherven fortress, near the town of Ruse.
The tower was erected not far from the place where the Frenchisar Gate was located, which was one of the three entrances to Tsarevets (southern). In addition to the entrance, the medieval tower guarded a reservoir.
The name of the modern tower as "Baldwin" is associated with the capture of Edirne, the first Latin emperor Baldwin of Flanders, who died in it.
